Sulhamstead & Ufton Nervet CE (VA) Primary School

Our Social Responsibility and Courageous Advocacy

At Sulhamstead & Ufton Nervet CE Primary School, we encourage our whole school community to be courageous advocates - making a difference; standing up for change for the better, whenever and wherever they can, no matter how small. We teach children to be agents of change by supporting and championing causes and speaking out against injustice, both locally and globally, with courage and confidence.

West Berkshire Foodbank Harvest Donation - October 2025

On behalf of the trustees of the West Berks Foodbank, I am writing to send my sincere thanks for your recent generous donation of goods from the staff and pupils of the school following your 2025 Harvest Festival collections.   Your generosity has provided 78 meals, helping to feed 4 people with 3 meals a day for 7 days.

The West Berkshire Foodbank has a long history of service provision underpinned by processes, governance and a well-defined delivery model based on addressing needs through professional referrals. We have a loyal supply chain and the resources of an extensive network of dedicated volunteers covering a wide geographic area. The Foodbank offers more than just food, with a Listening Team who call clients and support them to deal with the issues that have led to food poverty. They aim to help clients work with other agencies and charities giving them a way forward out of financial crisis. Our aim is to not only address short term needs but also to provide support, detect abuse and aim to provide a path out of hardship for those who seek out our service.

We are so grateful to you for the support that the school has shown the Foodbank.

 A.W.E Volunteer Day - October 2025

A huge thank you to our group of volunteers from the A.W.E who took a day out of their busy working week to help us improve our outdoor spaces. The team made safe planters that had seen better days, created a new digging/planting area, built a wonderful new mud kitchen and removed overgrown trees and hedges in the Oak outdoor learning area.

No. 5 and Cats Protection - October 2025

Lexi, Lily, Clara and Elsie along with support from the School Council on the day, planned and undertook a fundraising afternoon to raise money for No. 5 a charity close to their hearts who help children and young people overcome mental health difficulties, and Cats Protection the forefront of research on cat welfare to help all cats and support owners to keep their pets happy and healthy.  The children baked cakes, created loomband jewellery and did face-painting to raise a phenomenal £236! This was split equally between their charities.

Young Minds - October 2025

As a school, we recognise the challenges young minds face everyday and work tirelessly to improve the mental wellbeing of all our pupils. With this in mind, we all wore yellow to show our solidarity and community spirit to highlight that many children may need extra support or help to keep their minds healthy. We celebrated 'Hello Yellow' day to raise awareness and much needed funds for Young Minds and raised £77 in the process. Thank you to everyone who took part.
