Home Learning
Homework is an important link in learning, between school and home. It provides our children with the opportunity to consolidate their learning from school, delve deeper into areas of interest, research as prior learning to enable greater engagement in school learning, and to help parents get a clearer picture of what their children are learning in school.
Parents, staff and children have been integral to help us create a homework strategy that suits the new ways of working that we are all now becoming accustomed to; reducing our paper usage, and preparing our older learners for the expectations of secondary school to ensure they are ready for the transition.
- At Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet CE Primary School, the expectation is that homework be spread across the week, rather than being attempted in one sitting, as repetition of learning works best in daily short bursts
- Homework will be set on a Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday
- Homework will be set on TEAMS so it is accessible online, this may be in addition to 'hard' copies for those families unable to access remotely.
TEAMS is also the platform used for Home Learning in the event that school is unavoidably or unexpectedly closed (such as national lockdown or weather disruption for example), so it is vital that your child knows where their log in details are - this is provided at the start of the school year, used throughout the school year in class and is stuck to Reading Record books.

In addition to these tasks, each class may have half termly collaboration homework choices which are optional but designed to be completed collaboratively with parents/siblings/grandparents etc to encourage self-led learning projects. You can choose as many or as few of these as you like and your endeavours will be shared in class and displayed on the Proud Wall in class. |
There may be times when one homework task may be swapped for another which may meet the needs of children at specific times, eg cursive handwriting practice to help with learning a specific join, or research to coincide with a specific topic in class.
We thank you for your support with your child’s home learning.
